The best thing about Pixelhobby is that you can pixel your own pictures. With Pixelhobby Designer, you can design patterns from any picture or image of your choice. Use a picture of your children, grandchildren, pets, loved ones and so on.
The program is completely free and easy to use. The costs of your project will depend on how many baseplates you would like to use.

The program works with the computer and tablet, not with your mobile phone.
Step-by-step
Go to the Pixelhobby designer:
app.pixelhobby.com
Click on new and import your favorite picture.
A picture of good quality is important for a nice result.
Make a nice crop and choose the number of baseplates. The more baseplates you use, the more detail you'll be able to see.
If necessary, adjust the photo in the software with the editing tools.
Are you satisfied with your pattern?
You can then print it out.
Choose the "letter" option as the paper size (not A4) and scale the pattern to 100% or do not scale the pattern (do not adjust to page).
You can find the required materials on the first page of the printed pattern.

Every photo can be imported in the 'Pixelhobby Designer', but not every photo turns into a good Pixelhobby pattern. What should you pay attention to when choosing a photo?

Tips

A portrait photo (for example a yearbook photo) or photo by a photographer almost always works.

Crop the picture as close as possible to the desired focus point. This ensures that the details come out even better.

The larger the project (the more baseplates), the more beautiful and clear the project will become.

Choose a photo that is not overexposed or too dark.

Color

Are you not satisfied with the colors in the project? You can also opt for a black and white project. You can do this by moving the "saturation" bar all the way to the left. You can find this bar in the "Pixelhobby Designer" under the heading "adjust colors".

Size
Make sure the photo is larger than 1 MB (click with the right mouse button on the photo and after that on properties).
Why did my pattern turn out too big or too small?
​
It is very important to choose not to scale the pattern. If you cannot find this option, you can also choose to scale the pattern to 100%.

As a test, it is best to first print the second page of the pattern and, if it works, the other pages later.
Why does the pattern not fit the paper properly?
​
Do you want to print 4 patterns per page? If you chose A4 size instead of LETTER size in the printers settings, the pattern will not fit on your A4 paper.
If you choose the paper format LETTER, the printer's margins will become wider and the pattern will fit on a A4.

The pattern is printed on A4, but in the printers settings the paper size must be selected on: LETTER. Is this not possible? Then choose to print the pattern per 2 patterns on 1 page.

Be careful! This is only for the old Pixelhobby Designer with printing 4 patterns per page.
What are the costs of a home-made Pixelhobby pattern?

You can assume that 1 base plate filled with pixels will cost around
€10.00. The more baseplates, the lower the average costs are per filled base plate. And the more colors that are used the higher the cost will be.
Why won’t my picture become a nice Pixelhobby pattern?
​
Did you use a picture with poor quality? Are you using enough baseplates? You can choose to increase the number of base plates or choose a different photo to resolve this problem.
​
It may also be that the colors in the photo are not optimal. In that case you can also opt for a black and white pattern. You can do this in the Pixelhobby designer under the heading "adjust color". Drag the block in the saturation bar all the way to the left and you will see that the preview will consist of only shades of black and white.
